2. what was the first pokemon, some say Pikachu some say Charmander.

Satoshi is Ash's Japnanese name, it is also the name of the creator.
Creatures, Game Freak, Pokemon, Nintendo, are all connected in some way. (duh)
they had different artists for almost every region for a different look, gen 1 had the same artists til gen 3 and 4 had a different artist, so did 5th gen, which would explain the different looks.
Satoshi (the creator) didn't expect to get famous, drawing started as a hobby.
some pokemon keep their japanese names.

Satoshi's name in the English version of the anime isn't a direct translation of Satoshi, however. They called him Satoshi after the creator in the Japanese version, but a random name in the English >.>

They still have Satoshi Tajiri drawing the Pokémon, and I'm guessing he'll keep doing it till he dies.

I believe Pokémon first came around in 1996, but I don't know the actul date.
